The Scottish Cup Gallery

Exhibition design and build for the new Scottish Cup Gallery within the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden Park, Glasgow. The exhibition celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Scottish Cup, the oldest national football trophy in the world. This iconic object links generations of players and supporters over the last century and a half and informed our approach to creating a footballing and social history timeline.

“We are thrilled with our new gallery and feel that the design is above and beyond what we envisioned.”

Approach

We gave the Scottish Cup presence by positioning it centrally within the gallery, defining its footprint with overhead feature lighting. Around the perimeter of the gallery, we introduced a high-level timeline presenting the story of the winning teams over the last 150 years with space to update and add new content in the future. Large-scale graphic treatments use dynamic footballing images to create visual impact and chart changes over the decades.

The gallery aims to engage families and inter-generational visitors as well as football fans. To create context we added layered graphics, highlighting social and historical events in Scotland’s story, for each decade of the Scottish Cup. We integrated film and interactive digital content together with object displays to tell the story of the making of the Scottish Cup.

“Studioarc worked collaboratively with us and were enthusiastic and passionate about the project. They listened to our ideas and developed them to deliver the best possible design and helped us maximise our budget.”
